Solar Panel Prices

This is a two part article about solar panel prices. In part 1, we'll  discuss the cost of commercially installed solar energy systems and in part 2 we review ways to greatly reduce that cost using do it yourself methods.

So you’d like to convert to solar and your first question is “How Much?”  Consumers often thing the cost is based on the home's square footage, but that is probably the least significant factor in determining solar panel prices.

More important is your location, the amount of direct sunlight you receive on your southern exposure, how much power you use and how much of that power you want to replace with solar. In short, individual solar panel prices are somewhat meaningless without knowing how many panels you need.

Having said that, solar panel prices can be estimated at about $9 per watt when professionally installed and the following table can help you estimate what your costs might be.
By the way, this figure does not include the cost for batteries in case you want to store excess power for later use.

Today more and more people are building their own solar energy system and spending only a fraction of the normal cost. You have to invest some time and effort, but overall it's easy to do and the cost savings are really astonishing.
